ON STREET PARKING CHANGES
The following press release has been issued by the Press Office at Gloucestershire County Council: "The County Council has selected APCOA Parking UK Ltd to operate on-street parking throughout Gloucestershire - leading to expected savings of £400,000 a year.
"The company was chosen because it demonstrated the best quality service and best value for money during the tender process. "Enforcement of on-street parking is currently carried out on behalf of Gloucestershire County Council by the six district councils which issue tickets, deal with queries and manage appeals. In March, the County Council decided to end these arrangements and use one organisation to achieve greater flexibility and consistency.
The savings from reduced duplication will free up money to be invested in roads and transport. Jim Daniels, parking manager at Gloucestershire County Council, said: "We are delighted to work with APCOA, which scored highest on both quality and cost of service. The company has a high level of experience providing services across the country for councils and large private sector clients. "This arrangement will lead to a more consistent approach to parking enforcement in the county and it will give taxpayers better value for money."
Cllr Chas Fellows, Cabinet member for environment, said: "APCOA has a good track record not just in the county but elsewhere in the country and I'm delighted it has been chosen for this important contract. I'm positive this will create a more efficient service across Gloucestershire and will benefit taxpayers."
"The new arrangements will begin in four districts in April 2013 with the exception of Gloucester and the Forest of Dean, which will begin in September 2014 subject to further discussions. "Gloucestershire County Council will continue to be responsible for decision making about parking and overseeing the contract with APCOA. It will work with APCOA and the district councils to ensure a smooth transition."
